The Fretliners to Release Three-Song Project “Three of a Kind” In Anticipation of Their Return to the 51st Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival

“Three of a Kind” is available on all streaming platforms now.

The Fretliners are an up-and-coming bluegrass group that is straight on fire right now.  We’re sure you’ve heard that they won both the Telluride Bluegrass Festival AND RockyGrass Festival band competitions in 2023, a very rare accomplishment.

Since those achievements, The Fretliners have been working their butts off, seeming to be playing everywhere this past year, and now appearing on just about every festival lineup worth a darn.

We’re especially excited to catch the band at Yarmony Music Fest in late June and at Rhythms on the Rio Music Festival in August.

As part of their prize for winning the Telluride band competition, The Fretliners will be returning to Telluride Bluegrass in June to perform on the main stage.  That prize also included a recording session at Boulder’s E-Town, the result of which is the 3-song project, “Three of a Kind.”

We’ve caught these guys live quite a few times, and can tell you that the sky is the limit for this talented young group.  We urge you to catch them this summer – you should have plenty of chances!

And, if you are like us, you will very quickly go from a casual Fret-liker to an avid Fret-lover in no time!

FROM THE FRETLINERS:

Following their triumph at the esteemed 50th Annual Telluride Band Competition, The Fretliners will release a three-song project, “Three of a Kind,” on Friday, May 31st across all digital service providers.  In their first recorded music since their debut album and made possible by last year’s victory, the project showcases the band’s eclectic musical prowess and pays homage to their formative experience at Telluride Bluegrass.

The Fretliners, hailed as one of the most promising acts in contemporary bluegrass, secured free studio time at ETown as part of their winnings, allowing them to craft an exceptional musical offering for their fans. “Three of a Kind” comprises three tracks that capture the essence of the band’s journey and musical influences including:

  • The lead track, “Telluride Strawberry Moon,” serves as a poignant reflection of The Fretliners’ transformative experience in 2023, drawing inspiration from the captivating ambiance of Telluride under the enchanting glow of a strawberry moon. Infused with heartfelt lyrics and masterful instrumentation, the song promises to resonate with listeners.
  •  A captivating cover of Leon Russell’s “Prince of Peace,” famously popularized by Telluride legend Sam Bush’s New Grass Revival. The Fretliners’ rendition is a tip of the cap to “The King of Telluride” while infusing their unique style and energy into the timeless classic, and offering a fresh perspective.
  • And “Memories of You”, an original ballad co-written by Tom Knowlton and his father Jeff Knowlton, a southern preacher, who also contributed toward two songs off the band’s first album
