Great Blue Heron Festival Announces Full Lineup For 30th Anniversary Festival
The Sherman, NY festival takes place June 30 – July 2, 2023, and features 3 Days, 3 Stages and 33 Artists!
What have you done for 30 years?
Seriously. Think about it. This author can say with confidence that he has brushed his teeth and had breakfast for 30+ years. Not the most noteworthy of accomplishments, admittedly.
Which is why a music festival celebrating 30 years is HUGE!
But that is just what Great Blue Heron Music Festival is doing this summer.
From June 30 – July 2, thousands will gather at The Heron Farm and Event Center in Sherman, NY to do what they have been doing for 30 years – dance, sing, play, eat, drink, smile, and watch some of their favorite bands perform over 4th of July weekend.
Great Blue Heron Music Festival has seen countless amazing artists grace its stages in 3 decades. Past lineups have included 10,000 Maniacs, Rusted Root, The Big Wu, Jim Lauderdale, The Avett Brothers, Toubab Krewe, Jimkata, Lake Street Dive, Driftwood, The Felice Brothers, The Wailers, and Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, to name just a few.
For its 30th Anniversary, Great Blue Heron has called on some of their favorite artists to have played the festival over the past 3 decades, as well as some brand-new to Heron acts.
And that starts with Donna the Buffalo, who has been at every Great Blue Heron since the very first in 1992!
There are 23 artists on the 2023 lineup who have played at least once before at The Heron, but most have many more days on The Farm under their belt than that.
The reason many of these artists have been returning to The Heron Farm for years, some for decades, is that The Heron Tribe, as the fans call themselves, are more a family than just a group of people attending (or performing at) a music festival. And The Heron Farm isn’t just a venue for these folks, it’s home.
Artists like The Probables, Buffalo Zydeco, Tiger Maple String Band, Bill Ward, and Sun King Warriors, (whose Jim Donovan has been to all 30 festivals), are what Great Blue Heron is all about.
And this year, the veterans are joined by a few notable newcomers, including Keller and the Keels, Kaleta & Super Yamba Band, and the legendary Peter Rowan.
With a terrific mix of new artists along with some who have performed the festival longer than many reading this have been alive, Great Blue Heron continues its tradition of bringing music lovers together to celebrate roots, rock, folk, zydeco, bluegrass, country, and Americana.
But more, the Heron is a celebration of friends, family and all that is wonderful about music festivals!
Here’s to another 30 years of Heron!
