Northwest String Summit Announces Their 20th and Final Year
Northwest String Summit Says Farewell with a Huge Lineup in 2022
Northwest String Summit will go down in the history books as one of the most loved music festivals of all time.
The beloved Oregon festival announced this week that they will return to Horning’s Hideout in North Plains to celebrate their 20th – and final – year. The decision came as a sad shock for the many of us who have dug a special spot in our hearts for this event over the years.
In an open letter shared on their socials, the founders of Northwest String Summit shared a bit with their fans:
“These past couple of years have taught us to simplify, to return to roots, and to hold on tight to our loved ones and the friendships we’ve made, appreciate all that we have, who we are, and celebrate our roots and lives while we can. But equally important is to embrace change as an opportunity for progress!”
The Roots of the Festy GoNuts Spirit
Those words – celebrate our roots – couldn’t ring more true for the team at Festy GoNuts.
It was at String Summit 2011 that we first volunteered and got integrated with a crew that had been coming to this little fest for years. We had been to many festivals over the years, but something magical existed at Horning’s Hideout. It was something we felt down deep in our souls, something you see and feel when you’re standing at the top of the big bowl looking down at the stage and all of the dancing hippies.
We were riding the rail for the host Yonder Mountain String Band, and we watched Jeff Austin and the boys light the festival on fire with their energy. We were both grinning from ear to ear, bouncing up and down with the entire crowd. Some call it magic – but this was real. We just wanted more – more Yonder Mountain String Band, more Horning’s Hideout, and more music festivals.

Festy GoNuts Goes to Northwest String Summit
In 2016, we finally created a project dedicated to our passion for music festival: Festy GoNuts. By this time, hundreds of music festivals had popped up all over the country – and the world. We were new and taking the media passes we could land as we grew, so grateful for the festivals that supported us in our humble beginnings.
When we were invited to cover Northwest String Summit in 2018, it felt like we had come full circle. It was a true honor to share our love of this festival with our readers, and we counted down the days until we could make the journey to North Plains for the 17th NWSS.
We knew we had made it big time when we arrived and our unicorn Neil was instantly recognized. Well, we knew Neil had made it big time. He is the star of this whole production after all.

The Grand Finale: Northwest String Summit 2022
Northwest String Summit is the place where you always feel welcome, where everyone is your family. Returning to String Summit feels like you’re returning home – no matter how many times you’ve been.
We will bid farewell to this beloved music festival in 2022, but it will live on forever.
The 20th Northwest String Summit will take place July 21 – 24, 2022. In the words of the festival staff, “Let’s make it a finale for the ages! We intend to make this last Strummit special on so many levels and we hope you will join us in commemorating our history.”
They weren’t joking around. The initial lineup made all jaws drop. If you’re going out, go out with a bang.
We are trying to wrap our brain around seeing all of these amazing musicians in one weekend:
Umphrey’s McGee (Acoustic/Electric Sets), Yonder Mountain String Band (All Weekend), and Greensky Bluegrass (2 Sets), Railroad Earth, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, Del McCoury Band, Fruition, Keller & The Keels, Kitchen Dwellers, Shook Twins, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Travelin’ McCourys, Larry Keel Experience, Sideboob, TK & The Holy Know-Nothings, Benny “Burle” Galloway, Lindsay Lou, World’s Finest, Brad Parsons, Worth + Strain, Lowest Pair, Pixie & The Party Grass Boys, Kyle Tuttle (artist at large), Never Come Down, Mama Magnolia, One Way Traffic (2019 Band Competition Winner), and many more to be announced.
