Billy Strings Added to 2024 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Lineup

The 51st Telluride Bluegrass Festival takes place in Telluride, Colorado, June 20-23, 2024.

Billy Strings is to-hell-you-riding back into town!

Planet Bluegrass – the folks who put on Telluride Bluegrass Festival, RockyGrass and Folks Festival – sure know how to make a splash with their announcements.

In a subtle yet baller move, ticket holders to the 51st Telluride Bluegrass Festival were sent an email alerting them to the fact that Billy Strings would be joining the 2024 lineup.

“Bluegrassers,” the message began.

“How closely have y’all been reading the fine print lately? If you’ve been diligent, you know that there’s a disclaimer after our lineups that says “subject to change.”

We will always let you, our trusty ticket holding Festivarians, loves of our lives and keepers of our heart’s musical flame, know about updates and changes to the lineup and Festival schedule before we tell anyone else.

But do not Fretivarian, it’s not bad news we bring today. In fact, it’s the exact opposite, so we won’t drag it out!

Billy Strings is to-hell-you-riding back into town!

He’ll be here to tear up the Fred Shellman Stage with Chris Thile for his opening set on Thursday, June 20th. We wanted to clue you in first before we let the world know tomorrow. The full daily schedule with set times included will be heading your way in the coming weeks.

Now is your chance to grab Thursday passes (this is an
acceptable reason to play hooky from work, btw), or snag those last 4-day passes for a friend. Limited camping is still available! Go do your thing.

Love,
Your Friends on Planet Bluegrass”

The Planet Bluegrass website has been updated to reflect the lineup change, however neither Planet Bluegrass nor Billy Strings have yet to make a public announcement of this lineup addition.  Our guess is that this stems from some sort of ridiculous radius clause surrounding the Billy Strings Fiddlers Green shows coming later in May.

Billy Strings has performed at Telluride Bluegrass in the past, but after his meteoric rise over the last few years, it’s been speculated that he was now “too big” for the long-running festival.

Au contraire, says Planet Bluegrass.

Billy Strings will be joining Chris Thile for his festival opening set on Thursday, June 20th.

We have a feeling that Billy is not making that trip for just one set, though.

Stay tuned!
