’90s Minute Mixtapes are a throwback to the era that saw the height of the Mixtape.  In the ’90s the technology existed to combine vinyl, cassettes, and CDs into a mix, making everyone an at-home DJ, with an arsenal of music at their disposal.

Typically running 90 minutes (45 to a side), these mixtapes were made for a variety of purposes: the classic road-trip mix, the work mix, the workout mix, the sleep mix, the bus mix, and, the mixtape of all mixtapes, the ‘I like you but I don’t know how to say it in words so here is a mixtape of how I feel that hopefully will make you fall in love with me’ mix. (It rarely worked – but led to some great mixes!)

While these mixtapes may have focused on the music of the ’90s, it was not uncommon to see songs from widely different eras and genres making their way into the mix.

And so it will be with our ’90s Minute Mixtapes.

Expect the unexpected.  Just 90 minutes of great music.

For the second installment of the ’90s Minute Mixtapes, we didn’t stray far from our roots.  Like Vol. 1, this is an overall kickass mix, not necessarily for a specific purpose or event.  To be honest, there was just too much good material to fit on ’90s Minute Mixtape vol. 1, so…

Vol. 2 kicks off with the classic “Pets” by Porno for Pyros.  Such a great song, showing Perry Farrell evolve a bit to swim into the mainstream, but in doing so, he completely changes the current.  Keeping it weirdly ’90s, we then head into the only radio hit for Flaming Lips, “She Don’t Use Jelly.”

I wanted to get into the soul of the ’90s right away here, so we then jump into a classic Pete Rock and CL Smooth tune, before hitting up the Fugees.

We then show off the vast selection of completely different sounding ’90s genres, with The Cure’s “Just One Kiss.”  Put on your headphones and turn the bass WAY up on this one.  A forray into the 70’s fits right in, with Zeppelin’s “Misty Mountain Hop,” followed by a ’90s tune that would fit right in alongside Led Zeppelin in the ’70s, Blind Melon’s “John Sinclair.”

Sit back and relax (or better yet, stand up and spin around) as we travel along with The Cranberries, Belly, The Smiths, Pearl Jam, The Dead Milkmen, Das EFX, Rusted Root, and many more!

The result, I hope, is a classic representation of a well-rounded ’90s Mixtape.
