Leftover Salmon Delivers Instant Classic With New Album, “Let’s Party About It”

A lot can change in 35 years.  

In that span of time, families grow, relationships come and go, empires are born and fall, trends and styles boom and disappear into faded memories like parachute pants and honey badgers. 

Enduring for 3 and a half decades is rare.  Enduring while growing and evolving into something new and unique, but somehow still original and familiar, is beyond rare.  That is Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass.

Leftover Salmon is releasing their latest album, Let’s Party About It, via Compass Records on May 9, 2025. The latest offering from the jamgrass pioneers came to fruition as a true group effort – for the first time in the band’s legendary career, the album was written as a group, together in a single session.  The result is a Leftover Salmon album that sounds just like Leftover Salmon. 

From the opening notes of “Big Wheel” to the closing bars of “Gettin’ It Done,” Let’s Party About It is simply and best described as “classic Salmon.”  Every single track on the album can easily be imagined live – several have already been debuted – and will effortlessly fit alongside decade-old Salmon favorites. 

Also in classic Leftover Salmon fashion, the band brought plenty of friends along to help them Party About It.  For starters, longtime friend of the band and storied songwriter Aaron Raitiere joined in the writing session.  Bluegrass legend Del McCoury lends his unmistakable vocals to the album’s second single, “Twisted Pine.”  Another legendary friend of the band, Sam Bush lends both his fiddle and mandolin to the album, with Jason Carter adding more fiddle flair.  Another longtime collaborator, Jeff Coffin contributes on clarinet and saxophone, accentuating the Leftover Salmon New-Orleans party-vibe that is so beautifully captured on Let’s Party About It.

From start to finish, Let’s Party About It is not just classic Salmon at their best, it feels like a typical live Salmon show – not than any in their 35 years have ever been typical – but the flow represents what might be experienced at a live offering.  Traveling through jams, ballads and instrumentals, the energy is cohesive throughout.  Several tunes – like the Andy Thorn penned instrumental “Salmon Scales” for example – are ripe for live improvisation and exploration.  The opportunities for guest artists and sit-ins, so common at live Salmon shows, are already set with the many featured guests on the album.  And tunes like the title track, “Let’s Party About It,” are sure to be instant fan favorites, poised to set off the dance floor and bring down the house.

Fans will have a chance to experience the new offerings firsthand with a Memorial Day celebration at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 26.  The show will also feature Kitchen Dwellers and Clay Street Unit, along with special guests The High Country Horns, Bill Payne (Little Feat), Laurie Lewis, Jason Carter, AJ Lee and many talented friends on deck to help Party About It and bring the new tunes to life for an eagerly awaiting crowd.
