We love Pixie and the Partygrass Boys, that’s no secret.

Why?  Pick a reason.  This band speaks to us.

From their amazingly colorful outfits to their even more colorful personalities, on and off the stage, there’s no question of what Partygrass means.

But beneath the sparkle, chickens, whiskey, glitter, and fur, there is an extremely talented group of musicians, songwriters, and performers.  Artists who also just can’t ski and party if they don’t ski and party.

Festy GoNuts and Pixie and the Partygrass Boys were meant for each other.  (As was evident when we first met during an interview at Rhythms on the Rio 2019.  READ that interview for some serious shenartigans!)

So, yeah, we’re excited about the news of a NEW Pixie and the Partygrass Boys album – coming November 8!

AND – the first single – “Wild & Free” – is available NOW.

Here’s what Partygrass Boy Ben Weiss had to say (via IG post) about the latest project:

It happened organically. There was a party. There were instruments. It’s a tale as old as time. The most human thing you can do, really, is gather together when the world is dark and scary, making joyful noise into the night.

That was 9 years ago, and here we are, wild and free, skiing and partying (maybe a little less partying) still to this day.

There’s a wildness to the universe, and all good things are born from it. It’s easy to lose our way these days, what with all the roads, walls, fences, and distractions to keep that wildness at bay. It’s just as easy to find our way, with an instrument in hand, or along a long empty trail, a boat on a river, a snow covered mountain, where the ocean waves fall upon the sand and stone, or whenever two or more people gather together and decide to be silly little gremlins. It’s the feeling that anything can happen, and in my humble opinion it’s the thing that makes this world so beautiful.

I wrote a song about that feeling during the pandemic, when we were cloistered away and it seemed so distant. How lucky i am for this song to have come to life, played by my best friends, and we get to sing it so often in front of crowds of folks, wild and free like all good things are meant to be.

Thanks for listening!

-Ben

Pixie and the Partygrass Boys “Wild and Free” Press Release via Americana Vibes:

Salt Lake City-based beloved purveyors of bluegrass, skiing, and silly outfits, Pixie and the Partygrass Boys have announced a new-self titled album, their second album to be released by Americana Vibes due out on November 8, 2024.

Hot off the heels of the success of their genre-defying cover album, The Chicken Coop, Vol. 1, the band delivers the same energy on the upcoming record with a carefully curated song selection that showcases every member’s talent through breathtaking solos, clever lyricism, and memorable arrangements. To celebrate, the group has released the first single off of the album entitled “Wild and Free.”

“Wild and Free” captures the restless spirit of a young musician yearning for the road during the COVID quarantine, blending influences of modern bluegrass stalwarts such as Billy Strings and The Infamous Stringdusters with a distinct ‘partygrass’ touch. The lyrics reflect the highs and lows of life on tour, celebrating the freedom of performing and the connection with fans, all while dreaming of a peaceful future.

“With the world shutting down came the canceling of all of our shows and the stalling of some hard won momentum,” says the band, “We had a wonderful spring and summer lined up, and it all evaporated in an instant. I found myself sitting alone with my guitar, pining for the excitement of the road and gratification of playing music for our fans, and this song pretty much wrote itself. The bands I was listening to at the time shine through the arrangement. You can hear Billy Strings in the lick and verse, The Infamous Stringdusters in the chorus, but the orchestral nature of the bridge belongs entirely to Partygrass.”

The band is headed into a fall touring schedule that include key plays at the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities in Arvada, CO; CaveFest at The Caverns in Pelham, TN; Blue Ridge Jam in Asheville, NC; Moab Folk Festival in Moab UT; and Baja Wondergrass in El Sargento, Mexico.
