The Vince Herman Band Fall Tour kicks off in Colorado on September 10 and concludes in Pennsylvania on November 19.
Vince Herman is no stranger to touring.
He has been traveling the world with his Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass band, Leftover Salmon, for over 3 decades. As a member of Salmon, Herman has played live in front of all types of audiences, in venues of all sizes. He’s been on the largest festival stages and the smallest bar rooms. He’s played in front of campfires ’til the sun came up and in packed amphitheaters alongside just about every artist in the business. Basically, Vince Herman has done it all.
Well, not quite.
In all of Vince’s time with Leftover Salmon and various other projects (The High Hawks and Great American Taxi), Herman had never taken the time to fully explore the Vince Herman sound. Sure, he’s penned countless tunes with Salmon, and performed on his own in plenty of settings, but he had yet to record an album of his own.
That is until last year, when Vince Herman released his very first solo album, Enjoy The Ride.
Of his first solo album, Festy GoNuts said:
Vince embodies Americana – whatever that means. Whether he is covering John Hartford or John Prine, or performing one of his many original tunes, Herman is a true American folk singer.
With Enjoy The Ride, Herman is embracing these roots and venturing into traditional music, with a little bit of Nashville country sprinkled in, but still 100% Vince Herman.” (Read our initial review of Enjoy The Ride)
Since the November 2022 release, the Vince Herman Band has performed at several shows around the country to promote the album, but now Vince is taking to the road in earnest, with a 30+ date National tour.
And with this tour, Herman and his band hope to “bring the hippies to country” and help to unite people over music, the way Leftover Salmon has been doing for decades.
Herman said in a recent interview with Relix Magazine’s Mike Greenhaus, “though I’ve always seen Salmon as somewhat of a country band, the country and jamband worlds are absolutely miles apart—not so much musically, but culturally. And at this point, so much of this country needs to come together, with all the walls between the different sides and all the perceived little niches that we’re supposed to stay in, man. We need to come together as a country. And music can play a big role in that. So I guess you can say that I want to bring the hippies to country. I want to say, ‘We’re kind of doing the same thing here, folks. Can we talk?’”
The Vince Herman Band Tour kicks off with a free show in Vince’s sometime home state of Colorado, at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre. They then hit up a few points in California before venturing back to the midwest, then a bit of the south, and the east. Basically, they’re covering as much as they can in 3 months.
For the tour, Vince formed a craft band consisting of some of Nashville’s finest musicians, all also vocalists, to take on the road with him. Joining him in the Vince Herman Band for their Fall tour dates are Nathan Graham (upright bass), Dakota Holden (pedal steel), Ian Cory (banjo/fiddle), his son Silas Herman (mandolin/guitar), Alex Johnson (drums) [Sept Tour], and Lawrence Nemenz (drums) [October/November].
