Supergroups Take Center Stage at “Denver Comes Alive” at Mission Ballroom
“Denver Comes Alive” Features Spectacular SuperGroups
Returning January 13th and 14th to the Mission Ballroom in Denver, CO, Denver Comes Alive has expanded to a two-night run. Featuring a bluegrass heavy Night 1 and a funk-featured lineup on Night 2, AEG Rocky Mountain and Live for Live Music are kicking off 2023 at one of Denver’s favorite indoor concert venues.
Colorado’s music scene is arguably one of the best in the country, and it seems to get hotter as the weather cools down. We are always impressed with the density of our January music calendar – and Denver Comes Alive certainly offers a serious jaw-dropping lineup to get us all ramped up for a solid year of music in 2o23.
The headliners for each night are worth the ticket alone, but the super-groups and artists-at-large are certainly going to make this a weekend not to be missed.

Bring on the Bluegrass – Friday Night
We’re ecstatic to kick off this two-night musical endeavor with a bluegrass-heavy lineup on Friday, January 13, 2023.
Yonder Mountain String Band and the Kitchen Dwellers are both favorites in the Colorado area – and a great combination for co-headlining an evening of bluegrass. A bit of an old-school/new-school style of bluegrass sharing the stage will make for a special evening.
Maggie Rose is new to us – but we like the company she keeps (see pic below). There’s quite a buzz about her touring with the Allman Family Revival recently, so we are anticipating an electrifying set from her.
WinterWonderWomen – the Colorado-beloved all-female Supergroup – is certainly going to be a highlight of the evening. Founding members Bridget Law (Elephant Revival) and Megan Letts (Mama Magnolia) first showcased this phenomenal female group at WinterWonderGrass (Steamboat, CO) in 2019 – but it’s been a growing force ever since. We look forward to these ladies collaborating with Lindsay Lou, Mimi Naja (Fruition), Emma Rose (Big Richard), and Michelle Pietrafitta (Banshee Tree). With so much talent in one band, we know this group will steal our hearts and possibly the show.

Funk-You-Up on Saturday Night
We’ll be returning on Saturday Night for an evening of funk and several SuperGroups are sure to keep us moving.
Boston-based band Lettuce always brings the party, so make sure you wear your dancing shoes. But it won’t stop there because The Word is making a rare appearance that can’t be missed.
Gospel/Blues/Rock supergroup The Word features John Medeski (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Robert Randolph (Robert Randolph & the Family Band), brothers Luther & Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), and Kevin Lloyd. The group was created in 2000 after Medeski, Martin and Wood toured with North Mississippi Allstars, and then were joined by Robert Randolph in the studio to record an album. They have made very few performances in recent years, so this reunion is highly anticipated.

Saturday SuperGroups Stacked High
Denver Comes Alive will also feature an all-female SuperGroup on Saturday night – the Super Sonic Shorties.
Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power), Katty Rodriguez (Beyoncé), Tonya Sweets (Lizzo), Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band), Ella Feingold (Silk Sonic), Amy Bellamy (G.Love), Shirazette Tinnin (DeeDee Bridgewater), and Lanesha Randolph (Lauryn Hill / Robert Randolph Band) will pool their extensive funk credentials for a performance as Super Sonic Shorties.
And we’ve got room for one more group!
The Main Squeeze will present yet another SuperGroup to take the stage on Saturday night. Their performance will include a special backing band, Pulp Friction (Will Phillips, Adryon de León, Shira Elias, Tiffany Johns, and Nick Gerlach).
We can’t forget to also mention the multiple artists-at-large. Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band), Billy Failing (Billy Strings Band), and Tyree Woods (Buffalo Commons) will be hopping around on stage both nights – bringing even more energy to an already jam-packed stage.
