John Hartford Memorial Fest 2022: Same Festival, NEW LOCATION!
John Hartford Memorial Festival 2022: The Most Laid-Back Festival In America
The 10th Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival will take place June 1-4, 2022 at a new location, Lawrence County Rec Park in Springville, IN. The most laid-back festival in the country promises the same chill vibe, thoughtfully curated lineup, and family-friendly experience.
John Hartford Memorial Fest feels like one of the best-kept secrets in the world of bluegrass music festivals. For the past 9 years, JHMF has invited top-notch bands to play alongside up-and-coming musicians on their intimately small stages at the Historic Bill Monroe Music Park.
Bean Blossom, Indiana is a familiar town thanks to the efforts of John Hotze, a close friend of Hartford who wanted his legacy to live on. And what better way to honor the father of Newgrass than with a big ol’ bluegrass party! What started as a memorial party with a hundred of John’s friends and music collaborators has now turned into an annual musical celebration with a couple of thousand friends who have become family.
With the help of Tom Burkhart, The John Hartford Memorial Festival was born. And in the past decade, Tom and John never lost sight of their original mission – to have “the most laid-back festival in America”.
This year, things will be a little different as the festival has been moved to a new location: Lawrence County Rec Park in Springville, IN. Typically capped at 2,000 people, the new location will allow for 3,000 attendees – while still providing the comforts of the past: RV passes, golf cart rentals, large shower/bathroom facilities, wooded camping areas – and, of course, multiple stages for lots of music.
