Jai Uttal Hosts 4-Week Online Kirtan Camp
Article by Susan von Seggern
The Bay Area’s noted Kirtan wallah Jai Uttal is pleased to announce that he will be holding an online version of his annual Kirtan camp. The four-week-long program begins on June 30 and goes until July 28. Anyone interested in learning more or signing up should see https://house-of-bhakti.jaiuttal.com/.
Jai and his wife, noted yogi and mudra expert Nubia Teixeira, are pleased to host this online version of the Kirtan camp they have hosted each summer in Northern California for 19 years. They also host an annual holiday Kirtan camp at various international locations, 2019 was the 18th year for that. Numerous notable young artists have worked on their Kirtan skills at the camps including MC Yogi, Govin Das & Radha, Sean Johnson, and others.
Jai notes, “From my home temple I’m inviting you to join me in prayer and song, and to dive deeply into the Ocean of Bhakti. Together we will delve into the ‘Art and Practice of Kirtan’, a timeless gift that has been given to us by the saints and sages of ancient India.” He adds, “I invite you to join me in the light, grace and mercy that I experience while singing these ancient mantras. I hope that the practices shared in this online camp will become like a soft blanket of blessings over your life, like they have for me.”
This year’s online camp will be a rich journey through the inspirational art of Kirtan, or devotional chanting.
The camp will help students build their devotional foundation including exploring the heartful path of Bhakti Yoga, creating and nurturing a daily practice of Kirtan and Japa, honoring and following tradition, and discovering their unique and personal path of devotion. Campers will also learn to cultivate a sacred life, through chanting the ancient mantras and connecting to the divine, exploring Bhakti as our intimate relationship with the Source, and joining a Bhakti community to shine light and goodness on the world. The camp will encourage participants to learn with depth as they explore their voices through the practice of Sargam, the Indian system of notes, learn Jai’s unique kirtan melodies on harmonium and guitar, connect their voices to their hearts, and hear inspiring stories from Jai’s 50 years of practice on the path of devotion.
This course includes 6 extended lessons from Jai filled with exclusive new content, as well as three 90 minute live online sessions with Jai, July 5, 19 and 26. Due to the global crises, this course is being offered at a reduced price of $349 Early Bird by June 15 and $404 after June 15. Interested current and potential Kirtan wallas can sign up at https://house-of-bhakti.jaiuttal.com/.
Jai concludes, “Let’s all take a moment to send a prayer of healing and love to this planet and to all beings. It’s an intense time, but, through grace and compassionate action, we’ll get through it.”
