DelFest 2021 Canceled: Rescheduled for Memorial Day 2022
DelFest was originally scheduled to take place September 23 – 25 in Cumberland, MD.
Read the letter from The McCourys
In an announcement that makes our hearts drop, DelFest has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 festival.
In a note sent out and posted on social medial, the McCoury Family said, “With a heavy heart, we must accept the fact that COVID has won another round. We can not bring our families, and yours, into an event that doesn’t meet our safety and quality standards.”
The announcement comes as rural Maryland, specifically Allegany County where the festival takes place, is seeing low vaccination rates at the height of the surge of the Delta Variant of COVID-19.
The McCourys go on to state in their letter that the surge has created a labor shortage, and that the DelFest event services company has said they would be unable to field a team to man the iconic music festival.
Furthermore, the McCourys also point to a partnering shuttle company, in which the unvaccinated drivers are unwilling to be tested or wear masks while working.
Combined with the loss of vendors and local volunteers and organizers, the circumstances added up to too much to overcome for the DelFest team.
DelFest is offering refunds during a refund request period which will run through September 20. To those willing to hold their tickets until 2022, no action needs to be taken.
DelFest 2021 Refund Request Form
This is a sad one.
Any festival cancellation is upsetting, and the possible wave of other festivals following suit is daunting.
Our hearts are with the McCoury Family, as we know this was not an easy decision for them.
