Banshee Tree release new single “Hard Winds”
Banshee Tree releases new single, Hard Winds
Banshee Tree has just recently released a new single, “Hard Winds”, available on streaming services now.
Colorado’s Banshee Tree has a sound that is difficult to describe, and that is a good thing. Their Facebook page states that Banshee Tree is for “fans of Gogol Bordello, Caravan Palace, Django Reinhardt, and Umphrey’s McGee.” While that is certainly good company to keep, it doesn’t quite do justice to the full sound of this energetic Colorado 4-piece band.
The group’s first new single since 2017, Hard Winds, has just recently hit all of the streaming platforms. The best way to try and understand the sound of Banshee Tree is to give them a listen. The next best way is to go see them live!
They are also self-desribed as playing “frenzied, earthy dance music,” and that gets a little closer to the mark. A Banshee Tree show is definitely “frenzied.” They take the crowd on a journey that often leaves them elated and sweaty. The originals are complex and melodic, while the covers they incorporate are unique and sometimes daring.
“Hard Winds” definitely fits the Banshee Tree mold. It is a journey in itself, with a danceable groove and memorable melody. “Hard Winds” also dips its toes into the pool of the weird and dark, just enough to keep it real, but without losing focus on the essence of the song.
This is the first Banshee Tree recording with Michelle Pietrafitta on drums, and her presence is felt on the driving rhythm throughout, as well as with supporting vocals. Along with founding member Thomas LaFond on guitar and vocals, Jason Bertrone on bass, and Nick Carter on fiddle, Banshee Tree is solidifying a sound that is unlike anything else on the Front Range of Colorado and beyond.
Give “Hard Winds” a listen, then go check them out live and dance yourself into a frenzy. You won’t regret it!
